Money Changer in Bali
April 28, 2008 – 6:26 pmI am sure you will have a fun when it is time to change your own money/currency (such as US dollar) into the local rupiah currency. That’s because the exchange rate is way too far between local rupiah and your dollar bills. Just imagine, one US dollar equals to 9.200 - 9.500 local rupiah so $100 roughly can be converted into almost one million rupiah. Thats the average of hotel employee monthly pay who maybe just happen to serve you during your stay. Now you understand why Bali is the most favorite tourism destination. Yes, besides its panorama and culture, most likely because everything is cheap in Bali regarding to the huge difference of the exchange rate.
There are many money changer counters in Bali, unfortunately not all of them are considered good one. Some of them might be possible to do a cheat on you, one way or another. Therefore you must be careful in choosing one. Most obvious consideration when choosing a money changer counter is that it is a well established company and an authorized ones. I am not saying that the non-authorized ones are bad but at least you will be sure about one thing, you will get ‘the official rate’ of the day, the rate which is issued by the respective party such as Bank Indonesia.
