Yes, I just made it up, there is no such official visit Nusa Penida Island program now and then. People barely know where on earth it is. Nusa Penida is an island belongs to Bali Province in Indonesia, located in the southeast of Bali Island. Administratively, it is sub district of Klungkung regency which consists of two other islands named Nusa Ceningan and Nusa Lembongan. Unlike its two sister’s island, Nusa Penida is known as Dry Island, an isolated island, Poor Island and the like. There are no such things like tourism industry in Nusa Penida. Do not ask me why.
In short, Nusa Penida is the opposite of Bali Island. So if they call Bali is a paradise, Nusa Penida might be just the hell. There are so many factors why the development of Nusa Penida seems to be dead. First possible reason is because Nusa Penida is a rocky island with very limited rain level. Rainy season only fall once a year (for only couple days). Yes there is no rice field in Nusa Penida. Other big why is because there are very limited options of transportation to the island. As a result, things are very expensive on the island. Everything is double price comparing to the Bali main land.
Actually there are many intersting spots in Nusa Penida we can visit, ranging from spiritual objects, beaches also rocky hills with direct view to the ocean. How to go to Nusa Penida? There are some ways. First by speedboat or ferry in Padang Bai harbor, Karangsem. Also you can go to Kusamba harbor in Klungkung by traditional boat called jukung. Do not consider this option if you do not have adventurous spirit. This is the hard way as the jukung is very small and it’s just like you are being in the open water of the ocean. Other convenient way is by air. Renting a private helicopter, departing from Ngurah Rai airport. The cost is around 800USD one way.

Wah, kemarin nggak sempat ke sini, Mas.
tampaknya masih diangan2 mau maen ke Nusa T_T, waktu ama duitnya masih belom tersedia, nice info bro
Isn’t that really sad. So much progress and better living standards across the sea straits separating Bali and Nusa Penida islands and yet nothing can be funded from the richer island to alleviate the living hardship of the Nusa Penida population.
Why can’t an undersea pipe be constructed to supply at least the most important item for humans - water? I mean even if takes 5 or 10 years to accomplish such an expense it would still bring water to the inhabitants of Nusa Penida.
Again, the bewildering cost of daily necessities that takes full advangtage of a ransom mentality that persists throughout Indonesia. Simply disgusting.
Lovely blog! I’m interested in more information about Bali, can I link your blog with mine? Cheers.
therry, sure.
windmill, undersea pipe? r u kidding me, i dont think the govt will think that far. Nusa penida people have been always excluded..
just recent example, they dont register most of nusa penida people to do the governor vote next july. shoot. i think nusa penida should seek a political asylum to Aussie
Again and again I keep getting this kind of feedback on how the present Indonesian Government treats the minorities throughout the country.
It’s just so inhuman.
Wind Mill is right. Need water supply and accesibility. I have been there, once. In fact the beach and the rock are beautiful. You can do paragliding or paramotoring, or mountain-boarding, trekking, etc. It is also a paradise for divers and surfers. The main problem is limited infrastuctures to reach the island. So sad.
let’s visit nusa penida island
