Villa Renters in Bali Be Aware
Besides the conventional accommodation such as hotels and resort, villas seem to be an alternate choice when you’re visiting Bali. Sometimes, you can get the best value of your money by renting a villa, rather than staying in hotels. There is more personal touch by staying in villas and also much better privacy. This is the reason why the villas industries has been flourishing in Bali nowadays. More and more tourist prefer to rent villas. However, there are many complains coming from villa renters in Bali recently as they are often disturbed by unidentified and very aggressive villas sales and marketing agents.What kind of disturbance? Door to door villa sales agent often call those villa renters directly to their rooms and offering aggresively about their villas. Not only it disturbs guests’ privacy but it is really annoying as they call not only one time but even three times a day, offering villas deal. One trick used by these idiot sales agents is by telling the villas receptionist that they are friend of the guest. Villa receptionist often get fooled as these sales agent mentioned the name of the guest correctly and even they know what villas number the guest staying. So they will forward those unwanted call to the guest room without further questions. You can guess what happen next.
But how these aggressive door to door sales agent manage to know who is staying in what villas? Some said it might be some kind of ‘conspiracy’ among those who are involved in villa business. There is one obvious way though why they managed to know the guest details. The key is Ngurah Rai airport. We all know that there are so many people (hotel/villas staff) who are standing right in front of international arrival gate. These staff are ready to pick up their guest and of course some of them are carrying big paper sign with a guest name written on it. Among those staff, there are actually some door to door villa sales agent who are trying hard to collect as much information as they can such as name of the guest, which villa they are staying and so on. The real staff often do not realize about the presence of these villa sales agent.
So, when you are arriving at Ngurah Rai airport and are being welcomed by your villas staff or driver, make sure to establish such a way of communication so your identity (name and so on) is not exposed. You can arrange this prior to your arrival. Try different kind of identification with your villa staff, avoid using the old fashion way such as write big your name in a big hard paper ect.
Are they as aggresive as Time Share salespersons?
It is absolutely out of sales ethic. How can a salesman approach clients who are enjoying competitor’s services? Ridiculous..!

What you have related in your article is not good at all for the tourist industry in Bali.
Given the time, news of tourist harassment and safety from these villa sales agents and anyone else impersonating as such, will deter tourists.
I know what it is like from a somewhat similar attitude where I go to in Indonesia. As soon as I get past the Immigration booth, I am harassed all the way out till the end of the Jetty by hotel, taxi, ojeks and baggage porters. And some times, they can be really rude. Most unwelcoming for anyone who is a new arrival.
Let’s hope the get this properly organised so that tourists in Bali will be spared from the risks involved with such people walking right up to their room doors.
