New Hope on New Bali Governor
On July 9th 2008, the local government of Bali has successfully held the first ever direct election of new Bali governor. The governor itself used to be elected by the local representative house but this time, Balinese people (and those who reside in Bali officially) have a right to vote directly for their own governor. Made Mangku Pastika has elected the governor of Bali for the period of 2008 - 2012. Who is this guy? He is a police general who was the chief investigator of Bali bombing October 2002. Having successful in solving the case, he then elected the Bali Police in Chief. After completing his role as Balinese Police in Chief he moved to Jakarta as the chief of national anti-drug association.
Actually there are two other candidates and they are Winasa, the regent of Jembrana regency, who is famous for his successful story of bringing his people into prosperity, free education and so on. Other is Cok Budi Suryawan, the former regent of Gianyar regency. In term of popularity, Pastika seems to be on top of them. Not only he is popular in the national level (Jakarta) but also in the international world, mainly because his reputation in bringging the Bali bombers into trial. Plus, he is supported by the biggest political party in Bali which is PDI-Perjuangan (Megawati Soekarno Putri).
Ok now Bali has a new governor? So what? Things will change into a better one? I am not sure. I personally is always kind of pesimistic. All of them looks like the same to me. Telling good stories and promises during the campaign then doing nothing when they are elected. However I wanna give a shot to Mangku Pastika, a new hope. Considering his background as a police general, I hope he can put a strong foundation of security in Bali. This foundation is the important part of the tourism industry on the island. As a matter of fact, he put the security aspect as the main part of his concep of work, locally known as Bali Mandara which stands for Maju (proceed to advance level), Aman (secure), Damai (peace) and Sejahtera (prosperity). Pak Mangku Pastika, we are watching you!
Bali with new leader, of course with new hope. Be optimist Mr. Devari. Bali will secure in the future, I am sure.
so bali’s people are thinking the same way as the americans when they chose george bush for the 2nd period running. Security above all. Cograt’s, hope we can have our “old” bali back.

thank you for dropping by my blog. contrary or contradictory comments are not necessarily negative. Negative comments for me are those that put down a blogger and making them feel powerless and dominated by other bloggers who feel more superior. It is the comments that gives you negative feelings and comments that is not constructive at all. it does not tell you what to improve on but purely negative criticism.
